Chiefs and people of Tuobodom commend policeman 1/5/2007
Tuobodom (B/A), Jan. 5, GNA - The chiefs and people of Tuobodom in Techiman municipality have commended Sergeant Francis O. Owusu for his loyalty and commitment to duty during a clash between students of Tuobodum Secondary Technical School and the police in the town. Mr. Kofi Yeboah, an opinion leader and a transport owner, said all the policemen abandoned the town during the clash, leaving only Sergeant Owusu at the police station.

The station was subsequently closed.

He said Sergeant Owusu manned the station for about one year before the station was a re-opened and new policemen posted to the town. Mr Yeboah appealed to the Inspector General of Police to honour Sergeant Owusu "for putting his life on the line and single-handedly manning the police station in the course of the clash".

He advised the people to peacefully co-exist with the police, who must be regarded as friends and not enemies.

Mr. Saddat Anwar, secretary of Techiman branch of the Taxi Drivers Union, said but for the presence of Sergeant Owusu, the travelers at Tuobodom would have suffered in the hands of armed robbers. It would be recalled that in 2003 a clash between students of Tuobodom Secondary Technical School and the police led to the death of one person and as a result the police personnel were evacuated to Techiman.Source:
