Augustine Arhinful, a former Premier League goalking who now plays professional football in Turkey, has expressed his sincere gratitude to Ghanaian sports journalists for promoting him into stardom.

“I know what the local sports journalists have done for me and I’ll most ungrateful person if I failed to show my appreciation for the praises, showered on me”, he told the press at the launch of the second annual charity match for Orphanage Africa.

He said: “Sports journalists had done a lot for me to make me what I am today. For, it was through their pen that urged me on to not only take up the challenge to reach the top of my playing career but also comport myself in society”.

According to the former Goldfields Football Club and Black Stars player, who featured for clubs in Germany, Italy, Switzerland and currently in Turkey, the Ghanaian sports media is much respected both at home and outside the country for the good work it has been doing to enhance sports in the country.

“I, therefore, owe it a duty to render to the society that helped me to reach the top and rob shoulders with the world’s best footballers”, he noted, adding” the charity match in Cape Coast should be extended to the other regions on festive occasions so that we’ll continue to offer our widow’s mite for the needy”.

Arhinful featured in the All Stars Tony Baffoe and Tony Yeboah charity match that was played at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast December 30.
