Nigeria/Ghana: NFA Plans Double Header for Fifa Free Days 1/4/2007

The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) is planning a double header for the Super Eagles to play two international friendly matches on August 13 and 17 this year.

This is being worked on even as there appears to be some controversy over next month''s prestige game between the Eagles and the Black Stars of Ghana holding in London on the 7th.

Alhaji Sani Lulu told Nigeriansportsonline.com: "I have not been able to get any confirmation for the Ghana match.

"We did our part by signing an MOU with the agent organising the game but it seems the Ghanaians are not eager to sign.

"I will want Nigerians to know that we have done our own bit as regards seeing the Eagles play that friendly match.

"The committee saddled with the duty of getting friendly games for the Eagles is working something out."

However, THISDAYSports learnt that although the Ghanaians were still smarting from Nigeria''s last minute no show last August, the Glass House has been able to assure the organises that there would not be a repeat of such this time around.

Apparently aware of the backlash from the Nigerian public should the FA again fail to play next month, the Glass House is pulling out all the stops to convince their Ghanaian counterparts that a full strength Eagles would be available on that day for the friendly.

"I know the Chairman (Lulu) has already made a public comment on the match but I can assure you that from all indications the match will take place in London next month.

"I know that the Ghanaians are a bit sceptical about us because of what happened the last time but I can tell you we''re working hard on convincing them that we mean business this time around," said the official.

The NFA''s committee in charge of friendly matches comprises Amanze Uche-gbulam, Taiwo Ogun-jobi and acting secretary general, Fanny Amun.

Ogunjobi said: "We are arranging something for August 13 and 17, which are FIFA free days."
