Cameras To Monitor Accountant General’s Staff 12/28/2006
Cameras have been installed in all the offices of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department in the country to monitor the activities of the staff. According to the Daily Graphic, the cameras would also facilitate the processing of documents and enhance transparency in the delivery of services as part of the government’s decentralization process.

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Kojo Baah Wiredu who made this known at the end-of-year get together of the CAGD said the completion of the multipurpose Pensions Office would reduce the problems associated with the processing of pensioners’ gratuity.

He said the government was committed to decentralizing the pensions processes to all the regions to save pensioners from traveling all the way to Accra to have their pension gratuity processed. Mr Baah Wiredu also said the financial management reforms in the public sector would enhance sound financial and accounting management system which would make the government’s financial transaction and reporting transparent and accountable. That, he added, would ease the difficulties involved in processing financial information.

He said the introduction of the Budget, Public Expenditure Management System, Integrated Personnel and Payroll Database II(IPPD II) and the Treasury Realignment System would facilitate the fiscal decentralization concept and also help in processing public sector salaries.

He said currently, the Treasury Realignment System had been implemented in all the ministries, departments and agencies and metropolitan , municipal and district assemblies across the country. The Finance Minister commended the CAGD staff for their hard work and commitment to duty and was particularly happy about staff punctuality. He challenged them to discharge their work with integrity. Awards were given to hardworking staff.
