Chief Impregnates SSS Student 10/31/2006
The Tufohene of Mampong Akropong, Nana Apem Darko, known in private life as George Darko is alleged to have impregnated a 19-year old SSS Student, Nana Gyasebea Owusu.

According to the girl, some three years ago, she visited her father (now deceased) at Akropong for the first time. She said she was taking a walk in the vicinity when she met the uncle who introduced her to Nana Apem Darko. They exchanged pleasantries and she went home.

Later, George Darko, a celebrated highlife musician sent some people to come and call her. She refused initially but they insisted that Nana would like to see her. She therefore went as a sign of respect to the Chief, Nana Apem Darko.

There, she alleged that Nana proposed love to her but she turned him down, saying he is old enough to be her father. He tried to persuade her but she did not give in.

George Darko then told her that when she is leaving for Accra she should pass by so that he could give her some money for transportation. She alleged that when she was about to leave Nana again sent some people to come and call her and was give 50, 000 cedis.

When she arrived in Accra, George called her on her sister''s phone and asked her to come and see him at his residence. She told him she does not know his house so could not honour his invitation.

Nana then gave his phone to her uncle who gave her directions to the Achimota Round About near the police station and asked her to wait for them there. She went there, waited for them there. She went there, waited until they came in a green Mercedes Benz car. She alleged she was taken too many places including Golden Tulip where they said they were having a meeting. She was however given some money to go to the restaurant adjacent the Golden Tulip to have some meal. She went and by the time she came back they had finished the meeting, George Darko gave her 250, 000 cedis to pay for a course she was pursing in ICT.

Three days later, he called her that he was at Akropong but needy her badly. Gyasebea went but could not meet him. She called him on his phone and he said he was at Koforidua at a programme but she should wait for him and that when he comes back to Akropong, he will take her back to Accra. She waited several hours till 9:30pm before he came.

She said, she told him to take her back because she was staying with his sisters who will be desperate looking for her. George replied saying the road is risky but she should pass the night so that the next morning he will take her home himself in his own car. She agreed.

George gave her a place to sleep. Thirty minutes later he came back knocking on her door saying the room where he slept was so hot that he will like to sleep on Gyasebea''s bed. She asked him how that was possible but he pleaded. She turned herself to the edge of the bed to make a room for him.

Few minutes later, he started fondling her. She resisted but he became aggressive so she gave up and he had his way with her.

Three weeks on, she realized that she had missed her period. She told him about it and he gave her 100, 000 cedis to go to a hospital for a pregnancy. The result was positive.

She went back to him and informed him. There, she alleges that George told her that for the past 24 years that he had lived with the wife, she was unable to bear him a child.

He therefore asked her to tell the mother after he would come and explain things to her.

So, Gyasebea went to Takoradi to inform the mother. She found it difficult to break the story to the mother knowing the sort of person she is.

Interestingly, the mother detected the pregnancy herself. She was annoyed and shattered. She therefore ran away to Akropong to inform Nana that the mother had seen it and was furious. This got Nana frightened. He therefore called his brother into the room and told him what had happened. The brother said he knew a doctor at Tetteh Quashie Memorial Hospital at Akropong who could perform an abortion on her.

George Asked of the cost of the abortion and the man said two million cedis after which he asked the brother to arrange for the performance of the abortion. At that juncture, Gyasebea was felling uneasy so she called up her mother''s friend and told her of her predicament. She then asked her to come home assuring her that her mother will not harm her.

Later on Gyasebea''s mother went to Akropong to confront George Darko on the issue. Surprisingly George’s posture and utterances was absurd and insulting.

She alleged that George Darko told her mother that "After all, Gyasebea is pregnant and will give birth a human being and not an animal". This statement infuriated the mother and she gave George a slap which created a scene which was quickly settled.

Gyasebea''s mother demanded that she wanted her daughter to go back to school so she preferred an abortion. Nana Addo Dankwa, the Omanhene of Akropong persuaded her mother to allow her daughter to bring forth.

Later the mother took a scan of the pregnancy and went to Akropong and showed it to them - Sanahene and other sub chief who were present.

Eventually, the Sanahene took her mothers address and telephone number that he will open a banc account at SSB for Gyasebea to transfer money for the upkeep of the baby.

He even promised that he will come to visit them at their place of residence in Takoradi. Shockingly, they waited for long time and nothing was heard from them.

Gyasebea''s mother was compelled to taker her to Akropong as the pregnancy reached its eighth month.
