Backbone Storms The Hiplife Scene With New Styles 1/19/2006
Powered by songs like ''''Chalewote'''', ''''Yombo'''', ''''Too Julo'''', ''''Nhyira'''', ''''Breastina'''', ''''Who Let the Dogs Out'''', ''''Chibaa'''', ''''Fa Ma mi'''' and a bonus track, Backbone (made up of Kakalika and Animalia) hope to score massive hits on radio and TV.

Helped by an army of marquee artistes like Abortion, Kwabena Kwabena, Okra, Obadiah and sound engineers such as Red Eye (who played 3 beats), Jay Q (who played 3 beats) and Appietus (who played 2 beats), Backbone is definitely rooted in the Ghanaian music and is set to take Ghana by storm.

The Akuapem-native Animalia attended Kaneshie North 5 and proceeded to Berekum Secondary School. Asked about his stage name, he said he has some features of some animals; barks like a dog and acts like a tiger on stage. In fact, this guy truly comes from the Animal Kingdom.

Another member of the group named Kakalika plans to show off his new vocal talent on the group’s debut album next year which is the ''''Ntefre Style'''' - a typical Ewe man trying to speak English. This style is interesting and very funny.

Kakalika gives us the history behind his stage name: "The name in full is ''''Tete Ntefre'''' meaning Ancient Cockroach. Since the cockroach is a very destructive animal, I am going to be a destructive rapper". Have you noticed something from his stage name? The ''''Tete'''' before the Ntefre shows that he was there before the hiplife game started. No wonder they were inspired by animals.

Kakalika told Ghana Music.com that he started way back representing his school (Aquinas Secondary School) at a memorable event called Fanta Fun where he gunned down the second place during the zonal competition.

As if that was all, he won the ultimate prize at the national contest and that boosted his morale thus giving him some form of encouragement that he can survive in the hiplife game. "My mum has also played a major role in my life and I am proud of that".

Adds Animalia about the album: ''''Chalewote'''' is a Ga language which means Charlie lets go. Musically, we can say we are taking hiplife to the next level so everyone let''''s go.

''''Chalewote'''', which focuses on various themes like love, social vices and thankfulness to the Almighty will be one of the most dynamic and original album early next year.

Stay glued to your radio and tv sets for a teaser of their album during this X’mas period but the real promotion will begin next year.

They are the backbone of hiplife so why should they brag about it. They are here to take hiplife to the next level with their amazing styles popularly known as the ''''barking style'''' and the ''''Ntefre style''''.

Akonoba, their manager also had this to say: get their songs, pay attention to the album and you will never be disappointed. Akonoba who has managed so many top hiplife artistes could be reached on +233 24 4884 481 and +233 24 3607 446.

With ''''Chalewote'''' set to hit stores next year, Backbone will deliver the medicine for hiplife music. And once again I repeat: "Without them hiplife music will not stand firm".
