New Love Craze Among Nation’s Youth
Swear By Your Pen-- “Man For Chill Even When You Are In A Serious Relationship”
Until we come into a mutual agreement that we’re not going to continue with the relationship then he dare not cheat on me because if he does, he knows the consequences”, fumed Adjoa Bonsu of Accra. Adjoa, one of several ladies interviewed by this writer confirmed that she has joined the new craze among a section of Ghanaian girls who ask their men to prove their fidelity to them by swearing on their manhood.
Several ladies who were interviewed by ‘Gye Nyame Concord’ lamented bitterly about the infidelity of men they have dated and believe demanding that the men swear by their manhood to prove their fidelity has reduced the rate of cheating. One of the ladies who preferred not be named, said she has been involved in several relationships which have not yielded any good results because the guys always cheat on her. She said “I always try to devote everything, my love, trust, faithfulness into every relationship I have entered into but what do I get in return: Dishonesty, unfaithfulness and double playing the guys who call for a break up after they have got what they want”.
This time round she said the only way to keep a guy to herself is that “I will hold his manhood and ask him to swear by it that I am the only person he is going to have an affair with.”For her, this new tactic seems to be working. “To be very honest with you, that has worked the magic in my current relationship with this guy I am married to”.
Asked to explain why she thinks this has saved her relationship, she said any guy will like his manhood to function and will not do any thing to jeopardize it. She said such measures ensure that the man will not have an affair with ay other woman in order not to lose his manhood. Women account for over fifty percent of Ghana’s population of over 20million. The average age of the population is 19.8years, invariably making women a majority among the youth demographic. Superstition has for years been a staple in the social life of Ghanaians but the worrying trend is the strong influence it has assumed in the university community. Most of the people Gye Nyame Concord spoke with were students of the University of Ghana, Legon. Another lady, a third year student popularly known as Infotech by her colleagues said “Marian, the guys are scarce and they use and dump us since they claim that we girls are many, so the only thing to do is to let him swear by his manhood and I tell you if he really loves you and he means business as he claims then he will definitely do so”.
Asked whether that is all she wanted since some guys can perform the stunt just to please the lady without really loving her, Infotech retorted, “do you think a a man will joke with his manhood? Well if it is so then I really pity that guy because this is a joke that will leave your manhood lifeless. Such a guy must be sick in the head’. Miss Alison, a national service person said as for her she has gone a step further by even letting her guy swear by his car steering that any infidelity on his side will result in an accident and lifelessness of his manhood and this seems to be working for her. Mr. Gaisie, a final year student of the University of Ghana who describes himself as a victim confirmed the existence of this bizarre phenomenon in an interview with Gye Nyame Concord. Gaisie said he was taken by surprise when his girlfriend out of a little suspicion asked him to swear by his manhood that he never had anything to do with a lady she suspected he was going out with. When asked whether there is really something going on between them, he said “well to some extent there is but you know it is not as serious as it is with my girlfriend, it is only an adventure that my girlfriend seems not to like. But to hold my genitals and swear to prove my fidelity is really stretching the issue. ‘Charley’ I no go do that because man for chill even when you are in a serious relationship.
As to how he intended resolving the issue with his girlfriend who has vowed never to continue with the relationship until Gaisie swore by his manhood, he said “As for my shoddy I will move heaven and earth to win her back because she be nice shoddy and I nogo fit lose her ‘abi’ you catch, but swearing by my manhood is out of the question”.
Another person whose identity we cannot disclose also weighed in with this experience, “Madam as for me I had to end a relationship with my lady because she asked me to swear by my manhood just because I went having fun with another lady who happens to be her school mate”. “Even though I wish to do everything to keep her, I beg, to swear by my manhood? For Christ Sake, do you call that love? Love that cannot in any way forgive? Then I do not think that is real love so we had to call it quits”.
When asked why he thinks this has become a new way ladies have adopted to sustain their relationship, he said, the assumption that six ladies is to one man is making them feel very insecure and that is why they will do any daring thing to keep their guys. He added that some men will swear because of exuberance but warned them to be very careful because swearing by one’s manhood is not anything to joke around with.
