The FA''s congress to elect a new president is in disarray as some candidates file a motion to halt the proceedings.
The Ghana Football Association is still going on ahead with the process of electing a new President despite the filing of a motion at an Accra High Court demanding the suspension of the process.
Three of the five candidates contesting the position of GFA chairman Kojo Bonsu, Ade Coker and Vincent Odotei Sowah jointly filed the suit, claiming a lack of transparency in the electoral process.
Although both the EC and the FA have been served notice, our reporter at congress says the delegates and candidates vying for the position of FA president are taking turns to address the congress.
Injunction placed on FA elections
An Accra Court has placed an injunction on the election of a President for the Ghana Football Association.
An injunction was this morning filed at the An Accra Court on the conduct of the election.
Three of the five candidates contesting the position of GFA chairman Kojo Bonsu, Ade Coker and Vincent Odotei Sowah have jointly filed the suit, claiming a lack of transparency in the electoral process.
Latest reports reaching Joy Sports indicate that the Electoral Commission, which is conducting the election has been served notice of the injunction.
Joseph Ade Coker, one of the aggrieved parties at the congress grounds has refused to comment about proceedings.
FA goes to Polls today
The Ghana Football Association go to the polls today to elect a president, as demanded by football’s world governing body, FIFA. Five candidates are in the reckoning for the presidential position.
Acting GFA chairman, Kwesi Nyantakyi, who is considered to be the frontrunner in the race, faces tough competition from former FA vice-chairman, Joseph Ade Coker, executive council chairman, Y.A Ibrahim, Kojo Bonsu and Vincent Odotei Sowah.
122 delegates from the regional football associations will vote at the elections, which will be held at the Kama conference centre, Labone in the Greater Accra region.
Ahead of today’s important event, some of the contestants had sought an interim injunction from an Accra high court to block the elections.
The initiators of the court action claim there was no transparency in the pre-election arrangements by the authorised electoral committee.
The new FA president will also head the new 22-member executive committee.
