Oti Akenten Moves To Hearts
Barring any last-minute hitch, Accra Hearts Of Oak will fully engage the services of Coach Francis Oti Akenten as the new head coach beginning January 1.

This comes after the management of the club reportedly sealed a one-year contract with him. German coach, Sanzio Bahner’s contract ends tomorrow.

After a relatively good 2004/2005 league season, King Faisal’s Technical Head, Francis Oti Akenten, seems to be in a dilemma since he had to choose between the C.K.

Gyamfi Academy, King Faisal and Accra Hearts of Oak. The Black Satellites coach took a two-year leave-without-pay agreement with the C.K. Gyamfi Sports College at Winneba at the end of 2002 to enable him to sign a two-year contract with King Faisal which ends tomorrow.

In an earlier interview with the Daily Graphic, the acting Director of the C.K. Gyamfi College, Mr Dominic Asabia, said Coach Oti Akenten’s absence had compounded the institutions problem of lack of expertise.

“We have since not had a substantive Technical Director. I think it is about time Coach Akenten made up his mind because we also need to take concrete steps in the interest of the college.”

But Coach Akenten told the Daily Graphic in an interview last Friday that he would comment about the issue by the end of next week. “I need enough time to make a final decision and I believe that by two weeks everything will be settled,” he said.

But in an interview with Mr Ato Orleans Lindsay, management member on the Finance and Audit Committee of Hearts, confirmed that the deal had been sealed with the Coach.

He, however, added that though the deal with Coach Oti Akenten had been finalised, Hearts want his contract with King Faisal to end on December 31 before he assumes full duty.

“We want to tread as professionally and cautiously as possible to avoid any bad blood between Hearts and Faisal,” he said.

According to him, Hearts decided to sign the Satellites Coach for only a year because both parties agreed that it would be convenient for either side in the case of any eventualities, for instance lack of performance.

This means that King Faisal have to begin an immediate search for a successor for Coach Akenten since they have already been grouped by CAF for the Confederations Cup preliminaries next season.

The C.K. Gyamfi College will also have to begin the search for a substantive Technical Director to fill the void. The college is, however, yet to comment on the issue as well as give a clue about their next line of action
