Grace dethrones Manteaw in Ladies Open Golf
Tema, Nov. 7, GNA - Grace Afriyie, returned a gross score of 155 to dethrone defending champion Valentina Manteaw at the Fifth Biannual Ghana Ladies Golf Uni on Open Championship at the Tema Country Golf Course on Sunday.

C. Behiro came second with 158 gross, Mishida Mensah was third with 159 gross, Mona Captan took the fourth position with 162 gross, while Manteaw placed fifth with 163 gross.

Charles Essien won the youth category with 77 net while J. Mensah came second with 78.

Vanguard Assurance Company Limited sponsored the two-day 36-Hole Scratch competition, opened to lady golfers throughout the country. It was under the theme: "Keeping mother and child healthy through golf".

Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo, Minister for Education and Sports in an address read for him, said the ministry would do everything possible to ensure that the lesser-known sports were developed. He urged the Ghana Ladies Golf Union to encourage young girls to take active interest in the sport so that they could take over from older ones.

Mr Daniel Awuah Darko, Deputy Executive Chairman of Vanguard Assurance Company Limited gave the assurance that his company would continue to support the union to promote the sport in the ensuing years.Source:
